First off, I want to send out a huge thank you to all my clients that have commissioned paintings from me over the years! You've truly kept the dream alive of becoming a full time artist. For anyone new that is thinking of a commission...through good communication and dedication, it's my goal that you will LOVE your future work of art. Let's start a conversation about what you'd like me to paint for you! You can reach me directly at js_harmer@yahoo.ca or with the message box below.

  • To begin, you choose the size of canvas and your budget and I will send you a quote. Please see an example price list below.
  • Then we decide what I'll be painting for you!
  • Things that I require before I start painting: photos! I like to paint commissions from a reference photo. If you don't have a photo but have an idea instead, I'd be happy to do some research for you and share images that may resonate with you. I'll also need dimensions, hanging local and/or hanging orientation (vertically or horizontally), time constraints- it all helps to visualize and understand what you have in mind.
  • Please note that I unfortunately don't paint people or adopt a style of painting that is not my own. If I feel that my personal style/sensibility doesn't suit your project, I'd love to help by referring you to another artist more in line with your vision.
  • If you live in the Toronto, ON area, we could set up an in home meet and greet. While together, you could give me a quick tour of where you were thinking of hanging your new piece of art, as well as discuss some of your ideas, motivations and inspirations.  Let me know if this could work for you!
  • Once we're all on board with everything, the painting process begins!
  • To start, I require an initial deposit of one half of your quoted price. The remainder of the balance is paid upon completion of the finished piece.
  • Throughout the whole process, I will keep in touch as well as send a few early photographs your way as the painting develops.
  • When I've got your approval on the direction I'm taking, I won't send anymore images- but will still reach out. I really love the element of surprise! Nothing compares to the AMAZING feeling we both receive when you see your completed painting for the first time. It's a very special moment!
  • Now its time for delivery! Once again, let me know if you live in the Toronto, ON area, we can discuss the option of an in home delivery or pick up. Otherwise, shipping rates will apply.

  • All of my paintings are ready to hang, using professional grade wire and attachments. My canvases don't require a frame as I paint out the edges for you. I always use archival quality, acid free canvas stretched on kiln-dried, beveled stretcher bars. I prefer working with a stretched canvas depth of 1.5 inches, but please let me know if you'd like to frame your painting - I would then recommend a depth of 1 inch.
  • Shipping is from Canada. If shipping abroad, which sometimes includes the U.S.- all clients are responsible for any applicable taxes and/or duties that may occur upon receipt of their painting(s.)
  •  I'd be more than pleased to discuss any other questions you may have, just drop me a line!
